After four great days, it was back to reality. Unfortunately, the entire country was heading back to reality at the same time so it turned out to be a long drive home. We made best of it by taking the "scenic" route back to Roma along the Tuscan coastline rather than the faster but costly Autostrada. I figured it would be a shame to have lived in Italy for three years and to have never seen that funny tower so we stopped in Pisa for literally five minutes to take a photo. Nasty traffic all the way back to Roma but there were more than a few bright spots and photo ops on the way to help assuage the boredom.
